Hard Times - Potluck Cancellations [Aug. 23rd, 2010|02:53 pm]

Hey Faes,

Sincerest apologies for not keeping the site up to date.  We've been hit with hard times in DC Radical Faeries, due to all of our potluck hosting spaces being under construction or hosts being on extended vacations.  The month of August has been a no-potluck month.  This is the first time this has happened in about twelve years, and we're terribly sorry that it came to this.

Potlucks will resume in September, after the Labor Day holiday.  We're working on getting the venues back up to speed and notices will go out very soon as to locations.  If the date is coming up and you don't know where we're going to meet drop Fritter an email at info@dcradfaes.org, and he'll let you know.

Much Love,

Fritter

In a tradition that spans, well, at least a few years.  The first potluck after Pride is time for the Flamey Awards!

Here are the award winners such as we could devise from the minds of Fritter, Potpourri and Snafu.

The awards are as follows:

Eldritch : For bringing the high heels, and the schmattes for the faerie booth
Baba : For hosting the body painting madness and helping us scrub down in the end.
Keith : For providing us the truck to make the drumming possible.
Nick (aka Notta) : For providing us with the theme for this year's parade (The Museum of Our Sexuality)
Fritter : For procuring the body paint and constructing the ever popular phallus wands
Roy : For being an exuberant penis spear hunter
Snafu : For driving through the absolute chaos of the parade and keeping cool under the chaos
Ariella : For her first pride march
Potpourri : For bringing the wondrous velvet vulva puppet to soften our phallo-centrism, and for the proud display of her panties in public, as well as hosting the May Eve bonfire
Heidi-Ho, Tigre, Jamie : For drumming us on and giving us the ecstatic energy we needed to bring the crazy
Drew, Snowbaal, Tommy, Grant and Eldritch : For reading tarot and helping us earn this years tarot fund
Luke : For being a dedicated activist even during the pride parade
Peggy Lee, Keith, Baba, Fritter, Snafu, Notta, Tophu: For being faerie potluck hosts this year
Bea : For bringing naturist magazines
Rapunzel, Just Julie : For helping us sort out the maypole both before and after
Wayne : For always being the contrary faerie
Sable : For bring the faeries from up north

Though this is all we could come up with tonight, it is nowhere near as comprehensive a list as we would have wished for.  Thanks and Love to all the faeries who have helped us make this year spectacular.

If you know of anyone else who you believe should receive a Flamey Award this year for outstanding faeness please post it.

Much Love,
Fritter

Rain Out [Jun. 14th, 2010|04:38 pm]

It is looking increasingly likely that we will be completely rained out tonight for our weekly picnic potluck.  Also, due to after-pride carnage we are unable to secure an alternative venue as a host site.  So, in the event of rainout tonight, we will have to cancel potluck this week.  :(

Pride Info [Jun. 9th, 2010|11:45 pm]

Happy Pride Everyone!

Here's the scoop on what's happening with Pride Parade and Booth this year.

SATURDAY 6/12

12:00 noon : Truck arrives at Niko's and costumery begins
5:30 : We head to parade site to wait for step off
6:30 : Parade Step Off
7:30 : Parade Ends and back to Niko's for clean up and float breakdown

Emergency email: info@dcradfaes.org

If you have contributions to make toward the decoration of the truck BRING IT, because we are running light on supplies due to everything being scattered to the four winds.  Schmattas, flowers, drapery, flags, anything.

Also, this is the official call for DRUMMERS.  If there are drum family around, call them up and bring them in tow.  We need them to help raise energy.

If you have no costume, come anyway, and be your fabulous self. Surely we can throw something together and make you a fierce bitch baby.

SUNDAY 6/13

9:30 a.m. Booth Setup begins
11:00 a.m. Tarot Reading, Crotch Blessing and Greeting the public
6:00 p.m. Booth Breakdown

This is the official call for Tarot Readers, Crotch Blessers and Folks to greet the crowds.  Tarot is how we recouperate the cost of the event.  If you can pledge to read Tarot for a certain amount of time it would be immensely appreciated.  We will take drop in tarot readers as well.  But please consider reading for as long as you possibly can.

Crotch Blessers: We have hundreds of stickers that say "Blessed by the Faeries" that you can stick on whomever, wherever.  It will be highly enjoyable.

That's all the info I've got.  If you want to help please say so!

Much Love,
Fritter

Contemplating DC Radical Faeries [May. 25th, 2010|09:47 pm]

I have thought long and long about who the DC Radical Faeries are.  We have had endless debates about it, are we a religion, a spiritual group, a social club, a knitting circle.  We are all of those things, but we are more than the sum of those parts.

I asked the Circle Keepers recently to rewrite our "about us" blurb, because it felt wrong.  That it's a statement about who we were, not who we are.  So it was thrown back to me to rewrite it, and this is what I wrote.
The DC Radical Faeries are a community.  We are seekers, who follow many paths, but all find we march to the beat of a different drummer.  We rejoice in our divergence, and with exuberant joy lift each other to reach higher pinnacles of who we each can be.  We are raucous yet contemplative, broad in scope and deep in feeling, and find that reverence is nothing without mirth.  Spirit moves among us in many ways, and to all its incarnations we say "YES! Move us!"  We celebrate the body as the gateway to the soul, we celebrate the soul as the gateway to the person, and we celebrate each person as equal to each other.  We honor our being together and knowing each other every week with communal dinners that are open to all who are called to be among us.  Please visit our website: http://www.dcradfaes.org and if you wish to know more conact us via info@dcradfaes.org
That's where I believe we are today.

Potluck in the Park [Apr. 30th, 2010|09:21 am]

Please make sure to check the last post on the site for information regarding this weekend's Beltane celebrations.

Due to the fire at the Mulberry House and it's continued reconstruction (now I'm hearing the Gone with the Wind music in my head), we will be hosting Potluck in the Park throughout the entire month of May.  So instead of meeting at private homes we will be out in public having faerie time together, every monday in May.

So join us.

Potluck in the Park
Mondays in May
Dupont Circle Park
7:00-9:30 pm

In the event of rainout we will meet at Niko's house.  Address and instructions can be found on the DC Rad Feys Community list on Yahoo Groups, or write to info@dcradfeys.org.

Do what you can to help. Bring extra blankets, food that does not require reheating, and plenty of drinks to share.  When we pack up we leave no trace, so be prepared to leave with what you brought.
